mountaineering gear question?
ok want to go into meters of climbing and I have expirence with hiking and have hiked several mountains, but I want to start to climbig especially in winter when snow and ice. I live in new york so I was thinking of starting with Marcy million tonnes in the winter more of a challenge and then mabye more difficult to pass on such as wahington, Algonquin then up another. But what equipment is needed to raise I already know I need an ice ax and crampons and warm clothing but as far as the boots, ropes and everything else im clueless please help I remember climbing ice and snow. thanks
Mt Marcy and Washington are usually up by easy in the winter. You will need appropriate clothing and shoes (more on that later), ax, mountain crampons, snowshoes perhaps the package, Hiking Gear case and the necessary skills, but that is all the necessary equipment. Strings and other technical equipment climbing not necessary for normal winter routes in these mountains (Lions Head in Washington and the van Hoevenberg Marcy Trail.) Of course there are technical routes, such as Huntington Barranco in Washington, but it requires a lot of alpine and ice climbing skills and experience (and a lot of specialized equipment). More importantly, you must have the skills and proper training to deal with these mountains. More than 100 people have died on the mountain. Washington, during all months of the year. You should know and be prepared for the type of terrain and cramponing are appropriate and snow climbing skills, including efficient self-arrest techniques. You must know the basics of mountaineering and first aid, navigation and survival skills, and knowledge of mountain weather. Do not underestimate these mountains. Also be sure to be in good physical condition very, very. Clothing & Boots: – NO cotton, just like when you are hiking – thick wool socks – Synthetic long underwear tops and pants – hot or synthetic Polar largest – covered with insulation (such as Primaloft) – down parka – breathable jacket waterproof trousers – warm waterproof gloves – waterproof mittens – balaclava – hat – sunglasses with UV protection lenses – mountaineering boots (plastic or leather double hot): these can be rented at local stores usually, but if you buy them, get the good … it will cost between $ 300 and $ 500 for the case warm boots, if you want to enter in mountaineering, you should hire a guide to take you to Washington and Marcy, and for a day or two in the formation of mountains, is very useful and a good investment.
